When we say we’re looking for “a devops”, we faintly hear the devops guild tut-tut in the background. “Devops is not a job title, you can’t hire a devops, what’s a devops, even?” After the tut-tutting comes the teaching: “Devops is a frame of mind, an ongoing desire in the whole dev team to work together across dev and operations roles in times of continuous deployment. It’s an attitude much more than a skill.”  Well, that’s what we want! We don't want silos in our dev team, we’re looking for somebody who wants to work very closely with our devs. She or he is a sysadmin at heart, but that heart is big enough to care about the plight of our developers, forking and committing and deploying like there’s no tomorrow. The reason our devs do that, is not because they have a burning desire to break things. It’s because there is a tomorrow, a big tomorrow. A tomorrow where people in financial services all over the world find that one platform especially built for them to automate their work. We’re in a niche, but a huge niche, and one where Silverfin is hotter than a hot potato straight of a midsummer beach bbq.   Your job You’ll help us scale our infrastructure currently consisting of multiple front-end, background and database servers You’ll write scripts to automate our full infrastructure (would be awesome if you share our love for Ruby) You’ll help to define the architecture of our continuously growing application You’ll plan and orchestrate complex migrations and updates     Some of our challenges Huge amounts of data (both in databases as in documents) Lots of background processes coping with peaks Computationally heavy application   Requirements Fine tuning postgresql to handle billions of rows comes as a second nature You have experience with the infrastructure of a modern web application (databases/web server/caching/load balancer) You love automating things in a structured way, preferably in Ruby   What we offer A competitive salary with extra benefits The opportunity to work for an exciting company with a large international customer base A stimulating working environment with passionate colleagues Endless supply of excellent coffee, fresh fruit and... cocktails on Friday Regular and fun team activities

Silverfin is a SaaS app, and it works really well on mobile too. Our customers use it all the time on their phones and tablets, in client meetings and when preparing for meetings. The financial reports, budgets and forecasts that Silverfin produces, look great on any type of screen. Why we’re calling on you, mobile dev with a mission, is because we want to give our customers ‘more on mobile’.  The Silverfin app is going to be quite something. Exactly what that something will be, is pretty much for you to decide. We’re sure you’re not into simply replicating the functionalities of a desktop app on mobile. People on the move have a different mindset than when they’re at their desk. We want you to discover that mindset, fully acquaint yourself with it, and build an app that caters for the needs of our customers whenever they’re on a mobile device.   Your job You’ll setup a mobile application from scratch, with native components and parts straight from our web application You’ll develop the mobile application as a part of the web application, this means you will also be working in Ruby on Rails and develop minor features for the web   Some of our challenges Setting up a mobile application from scratch Quickly iterating to figure out what works for us on mobile Presenting financial data in a useful and usable way on a mobile   Requirements You have developed a mobile application (iOS or Android) with native code You have some experience with Ruby on Rails or a similar web development framework You love mobile and the web   What we offer A competitive salary with extra benefits The opportunity to work for an exciting company with a large international customer base A stimulating working environment with passionate colleagues Endless supply of excellent coffee, fresh fruit and... cocktails on Friday Regular and fun team activities

If you’re any good at Ruby, the chance that you’re fiddling your thumbs at home, anxiously refreshing your inbox 20 times a minute hoping for a job offer, is rather slim. We know how it is. Which is why we’ll try to sell ourselves to you here. Ahum. Here it comes.   What makes the dev team at Silverfin special? First of all, we build a hell of a product. Just to give you a sense of scale: our largest table has 3 billion rows. Mind you, we don’t just build Silverfin for the sake of it. Our product solves a very real problem: it automates and improves a large chunk of the repetitive tasks people working in financial services spend their time on. Most of us work remotely. We’re based in France, Estonia, Slovakia and Brazil... Without Slack we’d be lonely, now we just zap in and out of the zone as we wish. We’d be really happy to welcome you in our #dev channel. It’s not just virtual: we make sure we regularly get to see each other IRL too: twice a year we fly the team together.   If this sounds good, here’s more info about the job, and why it’s so challenging. Some say we’re dragging accountants kicking and screaming into the 21st century, but we’re actually trying to keep that kicking and screaming to a bare minimum.    Your job You'll be working on both backend and frontend, with a healthy mix of ruby, coffeescript, slim,... You'll get features to develop independently with the occasional bug fixes. You'll be writing both integration and unit tests for these features and participate in our peer code reviews.   Some of our challenges Parsing and processing lots of data in flexible financial reports Developing a textual framework to use with continuously changing financial data Synchronisation with lots of external APIs Creating beautiful reports/pdfs reflecting the identity of the customer   Requirements You're working with Rails because you love it If you have experience with optimising Rails performance or you have experience with devops, that's a plus but not necessary.   What we offer A competitive salary with extra benefits The opportunity to work for an exciting company with a large international customer base A stimulating working environment with passionate colleagues Endless supply of excellent coffee, fresh fruit and... cocktails on Friday Regular and fun team activities
