Liveware Group, The UK’s Fintech Recruiter has been instructed by an exciting and leading start-up fintech organisation to recruit a suitably experienced MLRO/Head of Compliance based out of either Newcastle or London.

This is a pivotal role within the organisations executive management team and you will head up the Financial Crime, Risk and Compliance Teams, you will be a skilled senior level manager with at least 5+ years’ experience within a similar role.

The company is in continuous growth and the ideal candidate will be flexible in their approach and have the ability to roll their sleeves up and lead from the front. This is a role for someone who is keen to grow and progress with the company and benefit from its success.


To be considered for the role, our client is looking someone who has experience of working as a Head of Compliance and MLRO, with obvious preference to those who have working experience of a fintech start-up.


This role offers a very large and wide ranging specification that covers everything from MLRO, KYC / On-Boarding and AML, and delivering all BAU, Reviews, Frameworks, Implementations and Change Initiatives accordingly.


One thing that will not change is that this role will always be a "hands on" position, so candidates must be able to demonstrate in an interview that they are happy to perform such a role.


Reporting to the VP, you will design and develop the Compliance & Risk Programme, support the roll-out of the Risk Management Framework, implement process enhancements, and manage regulatory reporting submissions together with acting as MLRO.

As the Head of Risk and Compliance you will be the subject matter expert, you will have worked/be working in a similar role in Financial Services and will have strong knowledge of the regulatory framework.


Main responsibilities of Senior Risk & Compliance Manager/MLRO:

  • Design, development and execution of the Compliance and Risk Programme and supporting Monitoring Plan
  • Maintain the Risk Management and Financial Crime Frameworks, advising on the nature and level of risks across the business
  • Prepare and present Compliance & Risk packs and management information for the Board
  • Prepare and submit responses to information requests raised by regulatory authorities
  • Review and update compliance & risk related policies and procedures in line with governance frameworks
  • Undertake horizon scanning of regulatory developments to identify changes to the Bank’s compliance obligations
  • Sign off on products, marketing material, and client communications
  • Monitor and oversee client assets
  • Embed and promote a Compliance & Risk culture within the Bank
  • Lead, design and provide training to the business on compliance and risk related topics including AML, GDPR, Ethics, Culture
  • Oversight of the Bank’s AML/CTF/Sanctions framework
  • Act as appointed MLRO.


Experience, skills and qualifications:

  • Previous experience working in a Risk & Compliance role in the financial services sector (ideally within fintech start-up/banking/commercial lending)
  • Experience acting as an MLRO
  • Knowledge of the regulatory framework
  • Knowledge of key compliance and regulatory topics
  • Ability to understand and interpret regulations and regulatory guidance

Candidates must be eligible to live and work in the UK and live within a commutable distance to either London or Newcastle Upon Tyne. There may be an option of remote working for 2-3 days per week.
