Job Description

As Technical Program Manager in the Product and Engineering team you’ll be reporting into the CTO, This is a key role in helping us deliver the engineering roadmap that will fuel the business growth. One of the most important objectives is to enable and provide full information transparency about the progress of engineering deliverables, to manage dependencies across the engineering team and to provide clear summarisation of current progress and risks. 

We are looking for a pragmatist who understands and believes in agile values but also is dynamic and is able to apply these to real-world situations. You will have a clear understanding of ‘what looks right’ and a proven track record of achieving the right processes for effective software delivery. You will enable teams to deliver the right thing in the right way.  

The team uses a hybrid approach, including elements of Scrum, Kanban and Lean approaches; having common sense and pragmatism when balancing the right way of delivering software whilst ensuring that immediate commitments can be achieved is absolutely critical for the success in this role.

What you can expect to be doing:

Managing tasks and priorities for all software features, to ensure they are planned, managed, executed and delivered with clarity and on time. 

  • Scopes and manages the delivery of projects end-to-end.
  • Develops and reports on projects, metrics and KPIs including sprint goals, burndown charts, cycle times and release plans to report on progress and delivery timelines.
  • Collaborates with stakeholder teams to define deliverables, roadmaps, and accompanying documentation for projects and initiatives.
  • Ensuring that the engineering roadmap is understood across the business and properly maintained.
  • Ensuring that delivery strategies are properly planned, communicated, reported and executed, with clear milestones.
  • Challenges the status quo, asks appropriate questions to determine root cause of issues, and negotiates solutions, timelines, and mitigation plans.
  • Ensuring that dependencies, risks, issues and blockers across the product and engineering are understood, documented and managed.
  • Ensure that engineering work is scheduled and prioritised in a timely manner to meeting delivery commitments.
  • Coordinates design/implementation efforts between internal teams and partners to develop optimal solutions.
  • Makes appropriate trade-offs to optimise release schedules, clearly communicates goals, roles, responsibilities, and desired outcomes to internal cross-functional, local, and remote project teams.
  • Anticipates bottlenecks, manages risks, issues and escalations; creates mitigation plans; and balances business needs with technical constraints.
  • Helping organise the meetings, preparing agendas, keeping track of the information and decisions from meetings are properly documented and communicated.
  • Continuously assess the teams approach and adapt planning tools, Agile methods and communication to improve ways of working and apply learnings within the teams.
  • Supporting quarterly OKR process and evolving working agreements.
  • Following up on the decision execution and project progress, both using software tools and communication.
  • Balancing the need for uninterrupted work with the proper level of team collaboration and interaction with customers and stakeholders.
  • Be a leader that encourages a collaborative supportive diverse environment where people are the most important element.
  • Organising team events.

 What we’re looking for:

  • Experience of growing the teams to a highly-performing stage.
  • Experience as a technical program manager in technology teams/departments of multiple companies, working with teams of at least 10-20 developers.
  • Experience of delivering technically complex projects and innovative solutions.
  • Ability to facilitate technical discussions and helping the team to arrive at the most optimal solution.
  • Ability to pragmatically apply agile techniques using common sense, rather than rigidly following a prescribed approach.
  • High level of personal maturity, pragmatism, flexibility, and resilience.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to establish and maintain good relationships with people.
  • Experience in managing projects using different software tools.
  • Expert knowledge and experience with JIRA functionality, including advanced workflows, queries (JQL), reporting, Confluence integration, ideally with the relevant JIRA courses and certifications.
  • Strong verbal and visual presentation skills.
