Role Description


The Accounting Control Associate core responsibility is to ensure the completeness and accuracy of the General Ledger for the transactions/products within their remit and provide full balance sheet substantiation for the accounts (product specific) where they are the primary owners.  

  • Reconcile and close the month-end General Ledger (SAP) for the accounts (Balance Sheet and Profit & Loss) relating to the business and entities within SLA
  • Investigate and resolve FOBO breaks for products handled
  • Coordinate with Operations, Risk and P&L and Financial reporting team to ensure completeness and accuracy of ledger, which may include resolving illogical balances, variance/fluctuation analysis, and understanding underlying transactions
  • Improve processes and link this to the upstream/downstream processes and outputs.
  • Work and coordinate with the Risk and P&L teams in making sure that MAFA (Management Accounts/Financial Accounts) reconciliation is clean and aged breaks have clear ownership and defined escalation process.
  • Post accounting journals to ensure proper treatment of financial products in accordance with International and German GAAP and approval documents
  • Perform Balance Sheet substantiation, and related Financial Statement disclosures
  • Assist in providing audit requirements which includes process walkthrough, preparation of reports and schedules
  • Implement standardization and improvements to methodologies and deliverables
  • Perform/check journal posting into the general ledger, ensuring an understanding for the basis thereof
  • Perform/check reconciliations between front office and back office systems and/or management accounts and financial accounts; conduct investigation of breaks and perform necessary steps for resolution/clearance.
  • Support the provision of inputs into the capture of daily KRI's/MIS relating to process and comments on breaches/exception items
  • Interact with Risk and P&L, Operations and Group Finance teams in various locations to ensure aged breaks are cleared on a timely basis and/or journals are fully substantiated
  • Complete relevant technical and systems training within the period provided to ensure core skill set is built up
  • Ensure Key Operating Procedures are updated for relevance and effectiveness on a timely basis
  • Initiate and implement continuous improvement initiatives and improvement of key controls
  • Escalate issues, control breaches and matters affecting processes owned and timeliness and accuracy of key deliverables. 



  • Relevant experience in Product Control or related space
  • Good cultural awareness and able to manage stakeholders across locations
  • Excellent communication skills, fluent in English (written/verbal)
  • Excellent team worker, able to work in virtual global teams and in a matrix organization
  • Open minded, able to share information, transfer knowledge and expertise to team members
  • Flexibility regarding problem solving
