Job Description

At Zopa, we’re shaping the future of finance.   We offer simple loans and smart investments that help people take control of their finances and do more with their money. In the 12 years we’ve been in business, we’ve helped more than 60,000 people lend over £2 billion to 246,000 UK consumers.   And our journey’s only just beginning. In November 2016 we announced our plans to build a next generation bank so that we can bring a greater range of smart, ethical finance products to even more people.   Following our continued growth, we’re seeking to enhance our Operational Risk team by recruiting a Junior Operational Risk Analyst. As we’ll be launching a new bank (exciting!) you’ll need to be the type of person who has an interest in learning, supporting, and challenge control owners on all areas of operational risk across several business disciplines. This is a second line of defense function and reports in the Head of Operational Risk.

Responsibilities will include:

    • Undertaking monitoring and testing of controls to determine the effectiveness and alignment with company policy, under the supervision of the Operational Risk Analyst
    • Monitoring and testing the implementation of agreed actions to address key risks or realised risk events
    • Suggesting recommendations where control failures or weaknesses are identified to ensure risks are mitigated
    • Supporting the Operational Risk Analyst by ensuring the completeness of the process universe including the mapping of risks and controls
    • Collecting control certificates from the first line and following up on reported issues
    • Assisting in preparing monthly reporting of the risk register to various committees
    • Integrating external audit findings and recommendations to the internal risk register.
    • Liaise with other 2nd line functions to ensure risks are covered in monitoring plans
    • Assist on ad-hoc projects to improve the overall health and efficiency of Zopa’s risk management environment

Ideally you will have:

    • Demonstrable interest in producing good business outcomes.
    • Ability to challenge decision making at all levels
    • Strong analytical, communication and written skills.
    • An awareness for identifying risks across different scenarios and business principles
    • High proficiency in Word, PowerPoint Presentations (for senior management reports) and Excel (monitoring and testing plans).
