Software Development Manager

About the role

You're an experienced, outgoing, organized software development manager with high standards and solid follow-through. You're on a continued path of learning – exploring new technologies and languages, writing code in production or for fun. You like people, are great at coaching, and help developers manage priorities to  reach their ultimate potential. You are a listener, and ask thoughtful questions. You value autonomy and intrinsic motivation in your people, and demonstrate these attributes yourself. You think work should be fun and engaging as well as technically challenging. You have managed at least one major software project in an Agile setting.

What you will do:

• Collaborate with Product Managers, the current Software Development Manager, and team leads, to define and deliver strategic goals, prioritize work, and assign tasks
• Advise on prototype designs and see projects through to delivery
• Facilitate continuous improvement of delivery processes and methodologies
• Champion a test driven development culture
• Lead, coach, mentor, and provide management support to a team of 8 or more software developers

Does this sound like you?

• A bachelor's degree in a software related field, or coding experience and familiarity with key CS concepts (algorithms/data structures, complexity theory, OO programming)
• 5+ years as a software developer and 1+ years as a software manager managing a team of five or more people, and leading or managing a software project
• Proficient in Java, JavaScript, Linux shell, git, and Microsoft Excel
• Experience hiring top-talent interns, new grads and professionals
• Experience on a cloud-based product that deploys weekly or daily

• A custom OLAP engine that uses Jetty, Google Guice, and Dropwizard

• Supporting micro-services written in GoLang
• Automated AWS cloud infrastructure
• A C# .NET Excel add-in built using VSTO, Excel Interop/VBA, and LINQ
