Job Description

At Acorns, we're building a different kind of investing experience—one that looks after the financial best interests of the up-and-coming. The Acorns team is passionate about pursuing our mission and living our values. It all begins with heart. Our heart leads us in everything we do. It allows us to make bold decisions, build trust, grow and advance our society. Come find your place at Acorns and join us in the revolution.

Grow (grow.acorns.com) is looking for a versatile writer and producer with experience covering money topics—preferably in interesting, interactive and inventive ways.

We’re a fast-growing site aimed at helping people build wealth—and build confidence managing every aspect of their financial lives. We’re dedicated to covering all things money and we’re published by the startup Acorns (though maintain editorial autonomy).

You’ll work with our Editor-in-Chief and Managing Editor to pitch and write about news and money topics for our site, newsletter and social channels, and help us create exclusive educational content available only to Acorns users. You’ll be joining a group of seasoned journalists and writers who’ve written for outlets like CNN, CNBC, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Mic and others. You’ll also help us build and publish content in our CMS.

This position is part-time and based in our New York City office.

What you’ll do:

  • Pitch and write <500-word stories on money topics and breaking news.
  • Pitch and write short, engaging educational copy for Acorns users.
  • Identify money stories with an unusual bend or unique take.
  • Write short posts with SEO targets in mind.
  • Write engaging social gposts for Twitter and Facebook.
  • Produce content in our custom CMS.

What you’ve got:

  • 2+ years of previous editorial writing experience
  • Excellent research, reporting and writing skills
  • Basic CMS experience
  • Ability to produce clean content under deadline
  • Ability to uncover new stories—and new angles on old topics
  • A desire to present money advice in a way that’s not boring or patronizing (or been done 100 times before)

Bonus points if you have…

  • Experience writing popular content for a millennial audience
  • Managed and grown social media accounts successfully (other than your own)
  • A great sense of humor

Hours and location are flexible, but you’d get a guaranteed minimum number of hours a month and, ideally, you’ll work out of our Manhattan office one day per week. Interested? Send us a resume and links to your best work.

What we offer:

  • Numerous career possibilities that allow you to grow with Acorns
  • Talented and motivated team members who care deeply about one another, our mission and our customers.
  • The rare opportunity to create a new world. We inspire one another every day to do meaningful work that solves big societal challenges.
