The Compliance Associate reporting to the Chief Compliance Officer, will assist in providing oversight of the Broker-Dealer and Investment Adviser of our rapidly growing Fintech firm by ensuring operations and procedures comply with FINRA/SEC regulations. The Compliance Associate/Compliance Officer will effectively communicate his/her findings and recommendations to facilitate resolution to problems as they arise.

Within 1 month, you will:

  • Review advertising, marketing materials, client communications for compliance with regulatory rules
  • Review, document and report complaints to FINRA on quarterly basis
  • Oversee internal email and website surveillance
  • Review outside brokerage statements and outside business requests
  • Oversee Firm Element Continuing Education program
  • Maintain, initiate, and process registration and licensing for registered representatives

Within 6 months, you will:

  • Provide training on updated regulations and/or policies and procedures
  • Review suspicious account activity and escalated cases for AML concerns
  • Work on projects and deadlines for audits and regulatory exams
  • Respond to customer complaints, subpoenas, and regulatory inquiries
  • Provide backup support to operations on account and transaction approvals on an as needed basis
  • Implement a process for verifying record creation, storage, and organization as well as develop policies and procedures for the process.

Within 12 months, you will:

  • Develop and implement compliance policies and procedures, outlining firm policies, regulations and best practices
  • Identify and utilize various internal (e.g. compliance team members, admin system, etc.) and external resources (e.g. training seminars, regulatory/ examiner websites and publications) to implement the requirements of applicable regulations
  • Provide ongoing compliance review and guidance for development of new investment products and updates to existing product offerings

What you will bring to Acorns:

  • Series 7, 66, 24 licenses
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Excellence in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel
  • Demonstrated Excellence with due diligence
  • 3+ years recent experience working in Securities Industry, preferably in a compliance or operations role
  • Knowledge and experience with securities and financial instruments
  • Familiarity with SEC and FINRA regulations along with the Investment Advisers Act of 1940
  • Ability to learn proprietary web-based account services applications
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks with attention to detail and to work under pressure
  • Self-starter with the ability to work both independently and as a part of a team in a fast-paced startup environment
