Full time Product Manager

Job Description

Symphony powers how people work in some of the largest companies in the world. Using our real-time collaboration platform, businesses can openly collaborate across any boundary while staying secure and compliant within even the most regulated industries. As we grow our customer base, enter new markets and expand our product portfolio, our product infrastructure and back end services must scale and perform at the level that our customers expect. We are seeking a technical-minded product manager that can own our infrastructure and back end services and ensure the correct investments are being made to meet the needs of new use cases, ensure reliability and uptime and stay ahead of our customer growth.

In this role, you will define requirements around performance, scale and reliability based on an understanding of both our customer usage patterns and growth projections and our internal architecture.

Your three main objectives are:

  • Thoroughly understand the usage patterns of and load generated by our customers (both current and forecast) and translate this into requirements that engineering can use to design, scale and test our services.
  • Develop a detailed understanding of our distributed cloud architecture, the services used under the covers and their characteristics and identify critical bottlenecks in the system in order to drive prioritization and release planning to address or upgrade/replace them
  • New services are developed with an understanding of the scale and performance requirements of our most demanding customers and that we consider how different usage patterns and front end channels interact to create stress on the back end systems

You enjoy getting into the nitty-gritty details of technical infrastructure and solving for both customer value and engineering agility. You want to know how things work so you can better make decisions on what to prioritize and the impact that limitations may have on the operations of our platform and our ability to support customer use cases. Reliability, scale and performance are absolutely critical requirements for you.

Qualified candidates:

  • Discern business requirements for enterprise software and translate them into functional and non-functional requirements for engineering
  • Understand characteristics and requirements around complex systems, multi-tenancy, microservices, asynchronous messaging, and encryption
  • Are inquisitive about popular cloud services from AWS and Google and how they function and scale
  • Demonstrate exceptional organizational, communication, project management and people skills
  • Speak clearly and persuasively in all situations and conduct effective presentations and productive meetings involving various internal and external stakeholders

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Build models of current and projected customer usage, resource consumption and transactions for validating non-functional and performance testing requirements
  • Work with product teams for various client channels, including desktop/web, mobile, and platform, and ensure we are delivering the infrastructure and some of the core back end services they need to support these
  • Define requirements to standardize configuration management for new customer deployments and create an on prem component product framework to unify the installation and configuration of these components

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

The top requirement for this role is to clearly demonstrate a strong drive for excellence and a track record of exceptional accomplishments. In addition you likely have:

  • BA/BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Master of Science or Business or PhD preferred
  • 7+ years relevant work experience building complex enterprise software with at least 4 in a technical leadership and/or product management position
  • Candidates preferred that have worked in a platform company delivering products that scale to millions of users or tens of millions of transactions per day
  • Demonstrated proficiency and discipline in product management and agile engineering best practices
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational and analytical skills.
