Job Description

*Travel expected*

We’re designing the future of recurring payments, and we’re looking for a Senior Product Designer to help us do it.

GoCardless is building a global network for recurring payments. We’re linking payment schemes from around the world to create a simple way of collecting payments from customers’ bank accounts. Our annual payment volume exceeds £7 billion, and we’re processing hundreds of thousands of transactions per day.

It’s an exciting time to join us; we’ve grown from a start-up to a leading payments solution with an impressive track record of year-on-year growth. Working out from the headquarters in London, you'll join 300+ people in a passionate, data-driven and design aware environment. The Design function itself has grown from a small central team, into two strong disciplines with both Product and Communication Design working cross-functionally across the business.

Our designers come from a range of backgrounds, and we welcome diversity. If you’re unsure or even if you think your portfolio is not ready yet, please apply.

A new opportunity

We’re looking for a Senior Product Designer who loves to work with deep problems across many different journeys. A designer who's just at home collaborating with colleagues, as communicating with stakeholders.

You’ll be leading design for a new team - helping businesses that use GoCardless create the very best payment experiences for their users. We are already integrated into some of the world’s leading software and are attracting an increasing number of global brands. The role is based in our London HQ but will involve frequent travel to meet and collaborate directly with our integrators all over the world.

We’re looking for designers who believe in our values

Start with why.

Using data, research and other tools you establish true empathy for the user to understand the problems you’re solving. You're aware of the technical implications of your design decisions, communicating with Product Managers and Engineers to execute designs.

Be humble.

You enjoy teamwork, empathise with team members and leave your ego at the door. You take shared ownership of product features and collaborate with other designers to develop design systems and standards.

Take pride.

You're a conceptual thinker. Exploring innovative ways to address problems and you take pride in crafting beautiful experiences using design and prototyping tools.

Act with integrity.

When faced with a difficult choice, you always do the right thing. Balancing user needs and business needs to arrive at an optimal solution.

What’s the role?

  • Mapping journeys and finding friction points across different user journeys.
  • Conducting and facilitating necessary user research to unearth insights.
  • Prioritising friction points by impact and business effort by liaising with Product Managers.
  • Creating researched hypotheses and getting these problems fed into future team roadmaps.
  • Prototyping effective MVP solutions.
  • Ensuring product experience changes are correctly implemented with considerable user testing and front-end testing.
  • Measuring the results of your work, and undertaking impact assessments on new product enhancements.
  • Managing projects with clear communication. Regularly presenting findings to the Design function and wider Product Development organisation.
  • Working with fellow stakeholders at GoCardless including sales, engineering, security and others.
  • Working onsite with client stakeholders, building and enhancing strong client relationships.
  • Willingness to travel both domestic and international. Frequent travel will be required.

  • Considerable experience with end-to-end service design including technical skills such as interaction design (research and UX practices), visual design (implementation using our design system) and light front-end understanding.
  • Considerable experience designing and shipping digital products at small to large scales.
  • Considerable experience with design research, synthesis and gathering requirements to determine user needs.
  • Self-starter who can uncover their own problems and projects who loves to collaborate with designers, engineers, data and product managers.
  • Enjoy presenting your ideas.
  • Comfortable working in Sketch, working with InVision and any other tools you’d like to bring to the function.
