Job Description

Do you know how sanctions legislation can shape policy within a financial institution? Are you a brilliant communicator that can form productive relationships with colleagues? Can you stay up to date and current with the ever-changing world of sanctions? If yes, then we may have the role for you!

As a Sanctions Policy Advisor you will be the guru of the sanctions world. You’ll work with wider teams to ensure we comply with sanctions legislation across all aspects of our banking services, from payments to account opening. You will be up to date with legislation including some notable recent changes. You’ll be instrumental in shaping a brand new team here at Metro Bank and have the opportunity to shape the role as it grows.

So what would you be doing?...

• Resolving sanctions escalations from colleagues across the bank from multiple channels across retail, business and commercial banking
• You'll help colleagues create fans of their customers by providing timely and accurate advice in line with our policy and minimum standards
• Raising awareness of sanction risk across the bank with a focus on the teams that are raising escalations
• Be the provider of subject matter input as required across the wider financial crime team

You need to be this kind of person…

• Passionate about providing unparalleled levels of service and convenience for customers
• Prepared to stick at something – we get nervous if someone has jumped from job to job
• Able to work and learn quickly in a fast paced, fun and dynamic environment

We always support colleagues to develop their skills. But to be successful in this job you really do need to already be able to do most of these wonderful things...

• Previous experience working in a sanctions advisory position within a 2nd or 3rd line function
• Good knowledge of sanctions legislation in particular OFSI and OFAC guidance
• Experience of managing escalations from a wide range of sources
• Industry recognised sanctions qualifications such as ICA or ACAMs
• Great understanding of sanctions peer practice

Diverse teams really are the best teams. We know that candidates (especially women, research tells us) may be put off applying for a job unless they can tick every box.  We also know that ‘normal’ office hours aren’t always doable, and while we can’t accommodate every flexible working request we are happy to be asked.  So if you are excited about working with us and think you can do much of what we are looking for but aren’t sure if you are 100% there yet… why not give it a whirl? Good luck!
